Where Does Lollypop Store Its Database and Playlists?

Lollypop keeps its lollypop.db library in ~/.local/share, with settings under ~/.config on Linux.

Last updated

Lollypop scans your music folders but stores ratings, play counts, and playlists in its own SQLite database at ~/.local/share/lollypop/lollypop.db. Audio files stay untouched where they are. That one file is the backup that matters.

Preferences live apart at ~/.config/lollypop. Flatpak installs shift both trees under ~/.var/app/org.gnome.Lollypop. Close Lollypop before copying the database, then rescan after moving music folders.

Where Lollypop stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.local/share/lollypop/lollypop.db

Library database with playlists and loved tracks. Flatpak equivalent is ~/.var/app/org.gnome.Lollypop/data/lollypop. Copy while the app is closed.

Linux
~/.config/lollypop

Preferences and collection folder lists. Small folder. Include it when migrating so music paths and sort views carry over.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move Lollypop to a new computer?

Copy lollypop.db and the config folder to the same spots, then keep music under identical paths if possible. Rescan the collection so moved files relink instead of duplicating.

Where is my music in a Flatpak install?

Under the Flatpak data tree at ~/.var/app/org.gnome.Lollypop. Native paths do not apply. Grant the music folders through Flatpak permissions if the collection scans empty.
