Where Does Loom Store Local Data and Cache?
Loom desktop app data and cache folders on Windows, Mac and Linux, and why your videos are not in them.
Last updated
The Loom desktop app is an Electron app, and its on disk footprint follows the Electron pattern. Settings, login session and a browser style cache live in the platform's standard app data folder. Finished recordings are not among them.
That surprises people cleaning their drives. A bloated Cache_Data folder can eat hundreds of megabytes while containing zero videos. Everything you recorded sits in your online Loom library instead, which is also why reinstalling the app never loses a recording.
Where Loom stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\Loom
Roaming, not Local. The Cache\Cache_Data subfolder is the usual disk hog. Loom.exe itself installs under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Loom, which is a separate folder with no user data.
~/Library/Application Support/Loom
Same Electron layout as Windows. Deleting Cache_Data while Loom is quit is safe and fixes a whole class of stuck recorder issues after updates.
~/.config/Loom
Follows the XDG config home, so check $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/Loom first if you relocated it. Only the desktop app uses this path. The Chrome extension keeps its data inside the browser profile.
Frequently asked questions
where are my loom recordings stored locally
Nowhere on disk. Finished Loom videos upload to your cloud library, and the local folders hold cache, settings and session data. Download a video from the library page if you need a local file.
loom is using too much disk space, what can i delete
Quit Loom, delete the Cache, Code Cache and GPUCache subfolders, and relaunch. Your account, settings and library are untouched, since those live server-side and in the smaller config files.
