Where Is the mako Config File?

mako reads its config from ~/.config/mako/config on Linux, reloaded with a signal.

Last updated

mako uses a single config file at ~/.config/mako/config for fonts, timeouts, grouping, and urgency styles. Options not set fall back to built in defaults, so small files are normal. Do-not-disturb schedules and per monitor routing live in the same single file.

Apply changes by reloading the daemon rather than restarting the session. The man page documents every key with examples. No database or history needs backup.

Where mako stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/mako/config

The whole configuration. Create ~/.config/mako on fresh installs. Reload via signal or makoctl reload after edits.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reload mako config?

Send the reload signal or run makoctl reload. New notifications use the updated style at once. Check the man page for changed option names.

Where is mako notification history?

makoctl list shows recent items in memory. Nothing persists to disk by design. Screenshot anything worth keeping.
