Where Does MapleStory Save Screenshots?

MapleStory drops screenshots into its own install folder, which surprises players expecting a Pictures folder.

Last updated

MapleStory saves screenshots to its own installation folder instead of Pictures. Press Scroll Lock and the JPG lands next to the game files, in an appdata subfolder for Nexon Launcher installs.

That placement has a real consequence. Reinstalling or wiping the game folder deletes years of screenshots with it, which is exactly what Nexon support threads warn about. Point the save location at your Pictures folder once and the problem disappears for good.

Where MapleStory stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Nexon\Library\maplestory\appdata

Default screenshot dump for Nexon Launcher installs. Also adjustable in-game under Settings > Options > Screenshot > Save Location.

Windows
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MapleStory

Same behavior on Steam installs: screenshots land in the game folder, not in Pictures. Move them out before verifying or reinstalling.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change where screenshots save?

Change it under Settings, then Options, then Screenshot, then Save Location. The default only makes sense until your first reinstall wipes the folder.

Why is my appdata folder full of character photos?

MapleStory auto captures level-ups and boss kills when the option is on, so the appdata folder fills with JPGs on its own. Deleting them is safe; the game recreates nothing it needs.
