Where Does MediaMonkey Store Its Database?
MediaMonkey keeps the library DB and INI per version in AppData. The MM5 vs MM4 paths and portable mode.
Last updated
MediaMonkey stores the library database and settings per version. MediaMonkey 5 uses %APPDATA%\MediaMonkey5\MM5.DB with MediaMonkey.ini and persistent.json beside it. MediaMonkey 4 uses %APPDATA%\MediaMonkey\MM.DB. Artwork caches sit in MetadataCache next door.
Portable installs keep the same files in a Portable subfolder of the install dir instead. The database path itself is movable: close the app, move the DB, then set DBName under [System] in the INI. Some view settings also hide in the registry, so the folder alone is not the full story.
Where MediaMonkey stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\MediaMonkey5\MM5.DB
MM5 default; MM4 uses %APPDATA%\MediaMonkey\MM.DB. INI, persistent.json, and MetadataCache sit alongside. Portable mode uses <install>\Portable instead. Edit paths only with the app closed.
Frequently asked questions
how do i move the mediamonkey database
Close MediaMonkey, move the .DB file, then add DBName=<full path> under [System] in MediaMonkey.ini. Back the INI up first. The app opens the moved database on next launch.
how do i back up my mediamonkey library
Copy the whole version folder (DB plus INI plus MetadataCache) with the app closed. That covers metadata, playlists, history, and podcasts. Enable hidden files in Explorer or the folder looks empty.
