Where Does Clementine Store Its Database?
Clementine keeps clementine.db and settings in a per OS folder. The Linux, Mac, and odd Windows paths.
Last updated
Clementine stores the library in a SQLite file named clementine.db. On Linux that is ~/.config/Clementine/clementine.db next to Clementine.conf. macOS uses ~/Library/Application Support/Clementine instead.
Windows is the odd one: %USERPROFILE%\.config\Clementine\clementine.db, a Unix style dot folder inside the profile. The database records full file URIs, so moving music across OSes needs path fixes. Quit Clementine before touching the DB or deleting it for a rebuild.
Where Clementine stores this, by platform
~/.config/Clementine/clementine.db
Plus Clementine.conf, clementine.db.bak, and jamendo.db beside it. Deleting the DB while quit forces a rescan rebuild. XDG overrides are only partly honored for the DB files.
~/Library/Application Support/Clementine/clementine.db
Same file set in Application Support. Full track paths are stored as URIs, so cross machine copies need SQL path updates when home dirs differ.
%USERPROFILE%\.config\Clementine\clementine.db
Literal .config folder in the user profile, not AppData. Enable hidden files to see it. Same rebuild rule: quit first, then delete or copy.
Frequently asked questions
how do i rebuild the clementine database
Quit Clementine, delete clementine.db (and its .bak), then relaunch and rescan. The app recreates the file. Your music files are untouched; only the index rebuilds.
can i move clementine db to another computer
You can, but stored track URIs embed absolute paths. After copying, update the file URLs to the new layout or the library shows dead entries. Same OS and same music path moves work cleanly.
