Where Does MeGUI Store Settings and Profiles?

MeGUI keeps settings, encoder profiles and logs in its install folder, not AppData. Paths for backup and moves.

Last updated

MeGUI is a portable zip install. Settings, profiles and logs live next to MeGUI.exe in whatever folder you extracted. There is no AppData copy to hunt down. The layout keeps the queue and encoder presets beside the tools that use them, which keeps backup simple. Copy the folder itself and you copy the setup.

That surprises people expecting roaming config. Back up the install dir itself, or at least settings.xml and allprofiles. A fresh extract plus those two restores your full queue and custom encoder presets. Close MeGUI before copying, and leave the tools subfolder to reinstall rather than transfer. Short install paths avoid write faults that long names and locked system folders cause.

Where MeGUI stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\MeGUI\settings.xml

Main settings and job queue. Lives beside MeGUI.exe in your extract location. Copy it with the app closed to migrate machines.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move MeGUI settings to a new PC?

Copy settings.xml plus the allprofiles folder with MeGUI closed. The tools subfolder is large and version specific, so reinstall it rather than copying. Point the new copy at the same working temp dir.

Where should I install MeGUI?

Avoid Program Files. Extract the zip to a short path like C:\MeGUI so encoders and AviSynth scripts can write beside the exe. Admin rights and long paths break tool updates.
