Where Does Mercury Browser Store Profiles?

Where the Mercury browser keeps Firefox style profiles on desktop.

Last updated

Mercury is a Firefox fork, so profiles follow Firefox conventions: a Profiles folder plus profiles.ini mapping names to paths. Portable zips instead build a USER_DATA folder next to their launch script when you use the bundled batch file.

Two profile directories on one machine is normal for Firefox family browsers, not a bug. Use about:support to confirm the live one before copying anything between forks.

Where Mercury stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\Mercury\

Firefox style layout with Profiles children and profiles.ini registry. Confirm the live profile at about:profiles. Portable zips use a USER_DATA folder beside the launcher instead when run via the script.

Linux
~/.mercury/

Same profiles.ini plus Profiles structure under the home directory. Run the bundled shell script for portable mode with USER_DATA beside it. Close all Firefox forks before swapping profile contents.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find my Mercury profile folder?

Type about:profiles in the address bar. It lists every profile with its root path and offers one click launch, which beats digging through AppData by hand.

Can I reuse a Firefox profile in Mercury?

Let Mercury create a profile once, close everything, then replace the new profile contents with the old files and relaunch with --allow-downgrade if versions differ. Keep major versions within a couple releases to dodge corruption.
