Where Does MeshCentral Store Config and Data on Linux?
MeshCentral keeps config.json beside the install, with live data in a meshcentral-data folder.
Last updated
MeshCentral splits code from state. The install folder holds the server plus config.json with ports, domains, and database choice. Everything the server writes goes to meshcentral-data next to it: the database file, device meshes, file uploads, and certificates.
Back up both pieces together. config.json alone cannot rebuild devices or users. Stop the server before copying the database, then verify the restore on a staging port before cutting over.
Where MeshCentral stores this, by platform
Install folder: config.json
Often /opt/meshcentral for package style installs. Holds ports, TLS, and auth settings. Keep a versioned copy; secrets here grant admin.
Install folder/meshcentral-data
Database (meshcentral.db by default), uploads, backups, and certs. Largest folder by far. Copy with the server stopped for consistency.
Frequently asked questions
How do I migrate MeshCentral servers?
Copy the install folder with config.json and meshcentral-data to the same relative layout, fix ownership, and start. Point DNS after testing login and one agent check in.
Where are MeshCentral database backups?
The server writes periodic backups inside meshcentral-data. Copy those plus the live db off host. External database setups need their own dump routine instead.
