Where Does MGit Store Repositories?

MGit keeps cloned repositories in an MGit folder on shared storage, with keys and settings in its app private directory.

Last updated

MGit splits repos from credentials. Cloned repositories sit in an MGit folder on shared storage, browsable by any file manager. Keys, passwords, and app settings stay in the private directory.

Push before migrating. Anything committed and pushed rebuilds from the remote anyway, which makes the folder copy a convenience rather than a lifeline. Uncommitted work only exists in the MGit folder, so that copy is the one that cannot be skipped.

One subfolder per cloned repo. Copy the whole MGit folder with the app closed, then let the new install reindex. Confirm uncommitted changes survived before wiping the old phone.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move MGit repos to a new phone?

Copy the MGit folder to the new phone, install the app, and open each repo so it reindexes. Push first from the old device so remote branches hold anything uncommitted. Keys must be reimported by hand.

Where are my MGit SSH keys?

In the app private directory, alongside connection settings. SSH keys never live in the shared MGit folder, so back them up separately through the in app export before wiping.
