Where Does Miniflux Store Config and Data?
Miniflux reads /etc/miniflux.conf on systemd installs and keeps every feed and article in Postgres. There are no local data files.
Last updated
Miniflux is stateless on disk. Everything worth keeping sits in Postgres: feeds, entries, users. The config file holds connection strings and tuning, nothing else.
That split shapes every backup. The file to protect is /etc/miniflux.conf with its DATABASE_URL. The data to dump is the Postgres database it names. One without the other is half a restore.
Where Miniflux stores this, by platform
/etc/miniflux.conf
Env-style KEY=value config read by systemd. Holds DATABASE_URL, listen address, admin creation flags. No feeds live here.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up Miniflux?
Dump the Postgres database Miniflux points at. The config file holds no articles, so copying it alone restores nothing. Keep DATABASE_URL from the config to reconnect.
Where does the systemd unit read config from?
Create it at /etc/miniflux.conf with KEY=value lines and reference it as EnvironmentFile in the unit. Keep it at mode 600 since it holds the database password.
Can Miniflux use a config file elsewhere?
Yes. Pass -c /path/to/file to the binary. Environment variables still override file values, so the flag only changes the base layer.
