Where Does mIRC Store Chat Logs?
mIRC files channel and query logs per network and window in a logs folder under its AppData directory.
Last updated
mIRC organizes logs the way IRC organizes conversations: by network, then by channel or nickname, then by date. Each day gets its own file, so a busy channel becomes a long series of small text files.
The folder moved with Windows conventions years ago. Modern installs log to Roaming AppData, while truly old installs and portable copies kept logs beside the exe. If the AppData folder is bare, check the install directory before assuming logging failed.
Where mIRC stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\mIRC\logs
One subfolder per network with daily files per channel and query. Old and portable installs log beside mirc.exe instead of here.
Frequently asked questions
My logs folder is empty. Why?
Open Tools > Options > IRC > Logging and confirm what is enabled. mIRC can log channels, queries, chats, and status separately, and anything switched off simply never existed. Enable first, rely later.
Can I read the logs outside mIRC?
Yes for reading: the files are plain text with control code characters for colors. Strip them with a log viewer or open in an editor that tolerates the codes. Timestamps follow your local clock.
