Where Does Mixxx Store Settings and Library?
Mixxx settings directory on every OS with its version split on Mac, and the path trap on moves.
Last updated
Mixxx keeps everything in one settings directory: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Mixxx on Windows, ~/.mixxx on Linux (Flatpak under its app ID), and a version split Mac path (Containers/org.mixxx.mixxx on 2.3+, plain Application Support before). Inside: mixxx.cfg for all prefs plus mixxxdb.sqlite for tracks, cues, loops, playlists and crates.
Back up the whole directory; analysis waveforms mean nothing without the DB. Moving machines or usernames breaks absolute track paths in the database, fixed by batch replacing location fields in SQLite or the manual migration steps. Open the live folder from Preferences, Library, Open Mixxx Settings Directory to dodge version confusion.
Where Mixxx stores this, by platform
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mixxx\
mixxx.cfg plus mixxxdb.sqlite plus analysis/. Paste path into Explorer bar (AppData hidden). Back up whole dir for library plus prefs.
~/Library/Containers/org.mixxx.mixxx/Data/Library/Application Support/Mixxx/
Mixxx 2.3+ sandboxed home (2.2 and earlier: ~/Library/Application Support/Mixxx). Migrate by copying contents across on upgrade. sandbox.cfg holds permission grants.
~/.mixxx/
Distro and source builds (mixxx.cfg plus mixxxdb.sqlite at top level). Flatpak: ~/.var/app/org.mixxx.Mixxx/.mixxx. Music folders stay user chosen; DB holds pointers only.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move Mixxx to a new computer?
Copy the whole settings directory above, then fix absolute audio paths in mixxxdb.sqlite track_locations (batch replace) since usernames and drives changed. Hotcues and loops travel with the DB.
Where is the Mixxx settings folder on my system?
Preferences, Library, Open Mixxx Settings Directory opens it directly. That beats memorizing the per OS and per version splits, especially on Mac.
