Where Does Monero GUI Store Wallets and Logs?
Official Monero GUI wallets on Windows, macOS and Linux plus logs and blockchain.
Last updated
Monero GUI defaults wallets to Documents Monero on every OS, with logs beside the binary or in home. The blockchain itself lives separately and dwarfs wallets.
Feather uses the same wallet home by convention, but GUI cache and logs differ. Back up .keys plus seeds. Exact log paths may vary by install type.
Where Monero GUI stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Monero\wallets\
Wallet .keys plus cache here. Logs sit beside monero-wallet-gui.exe or in %APPDATA% by build. Blockchain defaults elsewhere (often C:\ProgramData\bitmonero) and needs its own backup plan.
~/Documents/Monero/wallets/
Same wallet home. Logs often in ~/Library/Logs/monero-wallet-gui or beside the app. Use Go to Folder in Finder. Keep wallet perms tight.
~/Monero/wallets/
Common home (also ~/Documents/Monero/wallets on some builds, so check both). Logs often in ~/.bitmonero. Blockchain usually under ~/.bitmonero and is huge; back up wallets first.
Frequently asked questions
Which Monero GUI files do I back up?
The .keys files in the wallet folder above, stored encrypted, plus seeds on paper. Cache rebuilds from the chain. Test restore on a spare profile before wiping.
How is Monero GUI different from Feather paths?
Wallet home overlaps by convention, but GUI logs, cache names and settings differ. Copy the GUI folder set, not Feather ones, when migrating the official app.
