Where Does Movavi Video Editor Save Projects?
Movavi Video Editor saves projects (.mepx) to a Projects folder under Videos or Movies. Defaults on Windows and Mac, plus autosave rescue.
Last updated
Movavi Video Editor projects (.mepx files) default to a Projects folder inside your Videos library on Windows or Movies on Mac. That is only the starting suggestion. You can save any project anywhere, and the app remembers custom spots per install.
If the app died mid-edit, look for autosave.mepx in the project-files folder. Rename a copy and open it to pick up where you left off. To change the defaults permanently, open Preferences > Files and point Save project files to wherever you actually want them.
Where Movavi stores this, by platform
C:\Users\[Username]\Videos\Movavi Video Editor\Projects
Default for .mepx projects and autosaves. Change it under Settings > Preferences > Files. Imported media copies land in the Movavi Library folder unless you redirect them.
~/Movies/Movavi Video Editor/Projects
Same role as the Windows folder. Redirect it from Movavi Video Editor Plus > Preferences > Files. The project file references media, so keep source clips reachable.
Frequently asked questions
How do I recover an unsaved Movavi project?
Open the project-files folder above and find autosave.mepx. Copy it, rename the copy, and open it in Movavi. Save it under a proper name at once, since autosaves keep rotating underneath you.
Why is my Movavi project missing its videos?
A .mepx file points at media rather than containing it. If you moved or renamed source clips, relink them when prompted. Keep project and media in one parent folder to make future moves painless.
