Where Does Ninite Store Its Download Cache?

Where Ninite Pro keeps its NiniteDownloads cache on Windows, and the switch that moves it to another folder.

Last updated

Ninite Pro keeps a download cache called NiniteDownloads in the same folder as the Ninite exe. It reuses those installers on later runs and only fetches updates when an app version changed. The free Ninite installer works differently and does not keep a persistent cache the same way.

The cache path is adjustable. Running NinitePro.exe with /cachepath and a quoted folder moves storage there, including UNC network paths. Cached files are safe to delete. Ninite will simply download them again next run. Keep the exe and cache together on shared drives so every machine reuses the same files. Version checks still run on each launch.

Where Ninite stores this, by platform

Windows
<folder containing NinitePro.exe>\NiniteDownloads

NiniteDownloads sits beside the exe by default. Use /cachepath with a quoted path to relocate it. /nocache disables reuse entirely.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move the Ninite cache to a network share?

Run NinitePro.exe with the /cachepath switch pointing at the folder you want, in quotes. The cache then lives there instead of beside the exe. This suits shared drives and machines with small system disks.

Can I turn the download cache off?

Yes. Add the /nocache switch when you run it. It will download fresh copies each time instead of reusing stored installers. Handy on metered links or test machines where reuse causes confusion.
