Where Does Observium Store Data?
Observium lives in opt observium with config.php at top level. RRD graphs and logs sit in subfolders.
Last updated
Observium installs to /opt/observium by default. Config is a single config.php file at that root with database credentials and base URL. The rest of the tree holds code, RRD files, and logs.
RRD data lives under rrd and grows with device count. Logs live under logs. For backup, dump MySQL plus config.php and the rrd folder. Code can be reinstalled. Run a discovery poll after restore to confirm devices report, since cron and database must agree on device IDs. Confirm cron polling resumes after restore, since graphs stall when the poller stops running.
Where Observium stores this, by platform
/opt/observium/config.php
Database credentials and base URL. Copy on migration. Keep permissions restricted since it holds the DB password.
/opt/observium/rrd
Time series graphs for ports and sensors. Grows steadily. Back up with the MySQL dump for full history.
Frequently asked questions
how do i migrate observium
Copy /opt/observium plus a MySQL dump. Keep config.php with the files. Restore the dump first, then the folder, then run discovery to confirm polling.
where are observium rrd files
RRD files hold interface and sensor history. They live under rrd by default. Without them, graphs restart empty. Back them up with the database. Keep permissions for the poller user after every restore.
