Where Does OpenRCT2 Store Saves and Scenarios?

Where OpenRCT2 keeps saves, scenarios, tracks, and config.ini on every desktop OS.

Last updated

OpenRCT2 keeps user content under an OpenRCT2 folder per OS: saves, scenarios, tracks, landscapes, and objects, plus config.ini. The base RCT2 files it needs to run are separate and stay where you installed the original game.

Windows users sometimes find parks in two places (Documents and the old program folder). The Documents copy is the live one. Linux and macOS use the XDG and Application Support paths below. Android builds exist too but store under app-private storage.

Where OpenRCT2 stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\OpenRCT2\save

Holds save/, scenario/, track/, landscape/, object/, and config.ini. RCT2 base files stay separate where the original game is installed. Follows the OS Documents location if redirected.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/OpenRCT2/save

Same save, scenario, and track layout. Open via Go, Go to Folder since Library is hidden.

Linux
~/.config/openrct2/save

Same layout (save/, scenario/, config.ini nearby). Exact base follows $XDG_CONFIG_HOME and $XDG_DATA_HOME on some builds; check both roots if empty.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move parks to a new computer?

Copy the whole user folder (save/, scenario/, track/, object/, config.ini) to the matching path on the new machine. Point OpenRCT2 at your RCT2 base files again on first launch; parks alone are not enough to run.

Can I move the OpenRCT2 folder elsewhere?

Pass --user-data-path with a custom folder when launching, or move the whole Documents folder in Windows settings. The game follows the OS Documents location, so redirecting Documents moves OpenRCT2 too.
