Outer Wilds keeps profiles as .owprofile and .owsave files under AppData/LocalLow/Mobius Digital/Outer Wilds. Steam builds use a SteamSaves subfolder, Epic builds use Saves. An automatic Backup folder holds the latest good copy of each profile.
When a save corrupts, the game offers to restore from Backup on next launch. You can also do it by hand: pause Steam Cloud, copy the profile files from Backup into SteamSaves, and relaunch. Never edit .owsave files directly. The Echoes of the Eye DLC saves inside the same profile folders.
