Where Does Paru Store Builds and Cache?

Paru AUR helper build directory, package cache and config on Arch Linux.

Last updated

Paru builds AUR packages in its cache directory under home, keeping clones, built packages and review state per package, with behavior config in the XDG config home. Repo upgrades and AUR builds run in one pass like its peers.

The cache is disposable by design: clearing forces rebuilds but breaks nothing installed. Config pins the rebuild directory, editor, pager and review habits. Keep the config in dotfiles and treat the cache as temporary by policy.

Where Paru stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.cache/paru (builds) plus ~/.config/paru (config)

Per package build folders with sources and artifacts. Clean with paru -Sc for uninstalled targets. Config file holds build directory, review and upgrade defaults.

Frequently asked questions
