Where Does Path of Exile Store Its Config?

Where Path of Exile keeps production_Config.ini and loot filters on Windows and macOS.

Last updated

Path of Exile stores client settings in production_Config.ini under Documents\My Games\Path of Exile. Loot filters, screenshots and minimap data share the folder, so one backup covers configuration plus personalization.

Standalone and Steam clients use the same path, which simplifies every guide. The file is safe to hand edit while the client is closed: resolution, renderer and sound options that the menu hides (or that crash on apply) all yield to a text editor.

Where Path of Exile stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Path of Exile\production_Config.ini

Paste %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Path of Exile into Explorer. Edit production_Config.ini with the client closed. OneDrive synced setups hide the live folder under OneDrive\Documents instead.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Path of Exile/Preferences/production_Config.ini

Same settings, Mac layout. Reach it in Finder with Go > Go to Folder.

Frequently asked questions

My Path of Exile settings reset every launch. Why?

Check OneDrive first: synced Documents move the live folder under OneDrive without notice, and the game writes wherever Documents actually resolves. Also confirm no --use-defaults (-ud) launch option is set, which forces defaults every start.

How do I reset graphics settings when the game will not start?

Quit the game, delete production_Config.ini, and relaunch. The client generates a clean default on startup. Back up loot filters first: they live in the same folder and a careless delete takes them with it.
