Where Does PDF Studio Store Settings?

PDF Studio keeps settings.xml plus stamps and sessions in a per-OS user folder. Delete it to reset.

Last updated

PDF Studio stores preferences in a settings.xml file inside a user folder that moves with the OS: Roaming AppData on Windows, Preferences on Mac, .config on Linux. Stamps, sessions, scan profiles, and the log sit beside it.

Two renames matter. Older builds used versioned dot folders like .pdfstudio2022 in home, and the current product line is called Xodo PDF Studio with matching folder names. Copy settings.xml into the install defaults folder to seed identical settings for every user on a machine.

Where PDF Studio stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\Qoppa Software\PDFStudio\settings.xml

Current era settings with stamps, sessions, autosave, and scan profiles beside it. Pre-2023 builds used %USERPROFILE%\.pdfstudio<version>\. Wipe the user folder with the app closed to reset everything.

macOS
~/Library/Preferences/XodoPDFStudio/

Current brand folder holding settings.xml and support subfolders. Older Qoppa era builds used ~/.pdfstudio<version>/. Delete the folder with the app closed to start over.

Linux
~/.config/XodoPDFStudio/

Same layout as Mac. Show hidden files to see it. Legacy builds used ~/.pdfstudio<version>/. Copy settings.xml to the install defaults folder for site-wide defaults.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reset PDF Studio settings?

Quit PDF Studio and delete the user settings folder above for your OS. It regenerates with defaults on next launch. Back up settings.xml first if you only suspect one bad option.

How do I deploy identical PDF Studio settings to many PCs?

Configure one install, copy its settings.xml into the program's defaults folder on each machine. First launches read defaults from there, later launches read the user folder.
