Where Does PhraseExpress Store Snippets?
PhraseExpress phrase files with SQL or local database on Windows and Mac.
Last updated
PhraseExpress keeps phrases, autotext rules, macros and hotkeys in a phrase file (local database or shared SQL for teams) that the app loads on start. Documents and clipboard history stay out of it.
Single users back up one file; teams point every install at the shared SQL and gain versioning with it. Moving machines means moving the phrase file and re-pointing the new install before typing a single shortcut.
Where PhraseExpress stores this, by platform
Phrase file (.pxp database, location chosen at setup; SQL for teams)
Find the live path in settings under phrase file location. Copy it with PhraseExpress closed. Teams share one SQL database so edits propagate without file copies.
Phrase file in Application Support (location shown in settings)
Same file model as Windows with iCloud Drive as a handy home for solo users. Confirm the path in settings before assuming the default.
Frequently asked questions
how do I back up PhraseExpress phrases
Copy the phrase file shown in settings to external storage with the app closed. Teams on SQL back up the database server instead. Test restores by loading the copy on a second machine.
can multiple PCs share one PhraseExpress library
Yes through a shared SQL database or a synced phrase file location every install points at. Local files never merge themselves, so pick one sharing method per team.
