Where Does MassCode Store Snippets?
MassCode snippet database and backup folders on Windows, macOS, and Linux for the desktop Electron app.
Last updated
MassCode keeps snippets in a SQLite database inside a versioned storage folder. The default folder is ~/.masscode on Linux and macOS and %APPDATA%\masscode on Windows. The masscode.db file inside holds every snippet, tag, and fragment.
A backups subfolder beside it keeps dated JSON dumps. Those dumps rescue you when the database gets clumsy after a bad sync or crash. Change the location under Preferences to move the library. Copy with the app closed so the database is idle and files stay consistent.
Where MassCode stores this, by platform
~/.masscode
Holds masscode.db and a backups folder with dated JSON dumps. Respects the custom storage path from Preferences when set. Copy whole folder with app closed.
%APPDATA%\masscode
Same internal layout as Linux. Paste into Explorer to open. Move the path under Preferences rather than dragging files by hand.
~/Library/Application Support/masscode
Follows the Application Support convention. The backups subfolder is the fastest restore when a single snippet edit goes wrong.
Frequently asked questions
how do i back up MassCode snippets
Open Preferences and check the Storage path, then copy the whole folder with MassCode closed. The masscode.db file plus the backups subfolder restore everything. Keep the .env style settings out of git.
can i sync the MassCode library across computers
Yes. MassCode can point storage at a synced folder so every machine shares one masscode.db. Close other instances before switching paths to avoid a locked write. This suits Dropbox style sync.
