Where Does Postman Store Collections and Data?

Postman stores workspaces and history in per OS app data folders. Export collections to JSON for portable backups.

Last updated

Postman splits storage between cloud sync and local app data. Signed in workspaces sync to the account, while history, scratch pad, and caches stay in Electron app data folders per OS. Dump files and backups land there too. Signed out scratch data never leaves the machine, so exports matter before reinstalls.

Folder copies migrate everything including unsynced bits, but JSON exports travel cleaner across versions. Exact filenames inside app data shift by release, so treat the folder as opaque and prefer exports. Interceptor and proxy settings sync with the account.

Where Postman stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Postman

Local workspaces, history, and caches. Copy with Postman closed for full fidelity moves.

macOS
/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Postman

Same Electron userData layout on Mac. Prefer JSON exports for version proof backups.

Linux
/home/<username>/.config/Postman

Same layout on Linux under home config. Sync covers account data, this folder covers the rest.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Postman collections?

Export collections and environments to JSON from the app. That survives account, sync, and machine changes better than raw folder copies.

How do I move Postman to a new machine?

Sign in and enable sync, or copy the app data folder with Postman closed. History and unsynced scratch data live only locally.
