Where Is the Powerlevel10k Config File?
Powerlevel10k saves your prompt choices to p10k.zsh in your home folder. Rerun p10k configure any time to regenerate it.
Last updated
Powerlevel10k stores almost everything in one file, p10k.zsh in your home directory. The configuration wizard writes it on first run and every rerun. Your zshrc then sources it near the end, plus an instant prompt block near the top for speed.
The theme source itself lives wherever you cloned it, commonly under the Oh My Zsh custom themes folder or a plain dotfiles path. Only p10k.zsh holds your choices. Everything else is replaceable upstream code. A Nerd Font completes the look, since the glyphs come from the font rather than the config.
Where Powerlevel10k stores this, by platform
/home/<username>/.p10k.zsh
Generated prompt config. Created by the wizard, safe to edit by hand, regenerated on p10k configure.
/home/<username>/.zshrc
Shell rc that sources the theme and p10k.zsh. Keep the instant prompt block at the top for fast startup.
/Users/<username>/.oh-my-zsh/custom/themes/powerlevel10k
Theme checkout for Oh My Zsh users. The wizard adds the ZSH_THEME line pointing here.
/Users/<username>/.p10k.zsh
Same home folder layout on Mac. Wizard output and sourcing work identically across Linux and Mac.
Frequently asked questions
How do I redo my prompt setup?
Run p10k configure in the terminal. The wizard rewrites p10k.zsh from your answers. Your hand edits to that file get replaced, so keep custom snippets in zshrc instead.
How do I move my prompt to a new machine?
Move both files together. zshrc sources the theme and p10k.zsh, so one without the other gives a plain prompt. Install a Nerd Font on the new machine too.
