Where Does QDirStat Store Config on Linux?
QDirStat config files, per-folder cache and log locations on Linux.
Last updated
QDirStat keeps four config files in one folder. General options, cleanup actions, excludes and MIME groups each get their own. Per-directory scan caches sit inside scanned folders themselves.
Logs go to temp per user. Everything recreates with defaults when missing, so these files are disposable by design. That makes troubleshooting a delete and relaunch affair.
Where QDirStat stores this, by platform
~/.config/QDirStat/QDirStat.conf
Four configs for options, cleanups, excludes and MIME groups. Per-folder gzipped cache inside scanned dirs. Temp logs per user. All safe to delete with defaults recreated.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up QDirStat?
Copy the QDirStat folder out of config home with the app closed. Cache files can be skipped since rescans rebuild them. Keep cleanup and exclude configs when custom actions matter.
Is it safe to delete these files?
Yes. Delete the configs to restore defaults or remove cache files to force fresh scans. The app recreates everything on next launch. Logs in temp are safe to clear any time.
