Where Does QTTabBar Store Settings?
QTTabBar keeps logs and plugin data under AppData and exports full settings as XML. Back up the XML, not the live folder.
Last updated
QTTabBar stores its working state where Windows shell extensions normally do, and its portable state as an XML file you export yourself. The AppData folder holds the error log and per plugin data files. The manual names the plugin data folder explicitly.
For migration, the XML export is the real location that matters. Forum configs are shared as exactly these XML files. Import one through Options, General tab, and the whole setup (tabs, buttons, previews) comes along. Live files stay locked while Explorer runs, so export instead of copying.
Where QTTabBar stores this, by platform
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\QTTabBar\QTTabBarException.log
Error log and app data. When something breaks, this log is the first thing to check.
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Quizo\QTTabBar
Plugin data files land here according to the official manual. Contents depend on which plugins you run.
C:\Users\<username>\Documents\QTTabBarConfig.xml
Exported full settings via Options, General, Export. Keep this file as your backup and share it to clone a setup.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up QTTabBar settings?
Open QTTabBar Options, General tab, and use Export. Import the same XML on the new machine. That round trip is more reliable than copying live files.
QTTabBar vanished after an update. Where do I look?
Check the exception log in AppData first. On Windows 11 also confirm the auto attach option is on, since there is no classic toolbar to enable.
