Where Does Renoise Store Songs and Libraries?
Renoise songs go wherever you save; the User Library has a fixed home. The library paths plus autosave backups.
Last updated
Renoise song files (.xrns) live wherever you save them, like any document. They are zip archives, so samples ride inside unless you reference them externally. No central songs folder exists to hunt down.
The fixed location is the User Library for your own presets: Documents/Renoise on Windows and macOS, ~/Renoise on Linux, with Samples, Instruments, and Multi-Samples below it. Autosave backups drop next to the song, or into the prefs folder for untitled work. Move the library with a symlink when the OS drive fills.
Where Renoise stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Renoise
User Library root with Samples, Instruments, Multi-Samples below. Songs are wherever saved. Relocate with a directory junction; no in app path setting exists.
~/Documents/Renoise
Same library layout in Documents. Symlink it to ~/Music or elsewhere if Documents policing bothers you; Renoise follows the link transparently.
~/Renoise
Library sits directly in home rather than Documents. Same symlink trick applies. Backup cadence and count live in Preferences under auto save backups.
Frequently asked questions
where are renoise autosave backups
Beside the song in a folder named after it, or in the prefs folder for untitled songs. Set the interval, count, and alternate folder in Preferences. They are full song copies, not diffs.
can i change the renoise user library path
Not in the GUI. Move the Renoise folder and symlink the old location to the new one. Renoise writes through the link with no complaints.
