Where Does Rizin Store Config and History?

Rizin splits state across XDG homes: config in ~/.config/rizin, data in local share, history in cache.

Last updated

Rizin follows the XDG directory spec strictly, which spreads its files across three homes by role. Config and init scripts sit in config, type libraries and plugins in local share, command history in cache.

Old radare2 paths do not carry over automatically. Migrating means moving selected files into the new homes, not symlinking the whole radare2 folder and hoping.

Where Rizin stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/rizin

rizinrc init plus per tool configs. Data like sdb types lives in ~/.local/share/rizin and history in ~/.cache/rizin/history. Set XDG vars to relocate the trio together.

macOS
~/.config/rizin

Same XDG layout on Mac. Homebrew installs respect it. Cutter shares the backend data folders described in its own post.

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\.config\rizin

Config home equivalent on Windows with share and cache beside it. Portable zips keep everything relative to the executable instead.

Frequently asked questions

where is the rizin config file

At ~/.config/rizin/rizinrc on Unix-likes. Commands there run at every startup, making it the place for color themes and default analysis options.

can i reuse radare2 config in rizin

Partially. Copy individual settings into the rizin homes rather than the whole .radare2 folder. Command names changed between the forks, so review each line.
