Where Does Serato Keep Its Library and Crates?
Where Serato DJ keeps the _Serato_ database, crates and the Library folder on Windows and Mac.
Last updated
Serato splits its brain two ways: the _Serato_ folder in Music holds the track database, crates and Subcrates, while the Library folder (AppData\Local\Serato on Windows, Application Support/Serato on Mac) holds history, preferences and auto backups. Both travel for a complete migration.
External drives grow their own _Serato_ folders for tracks added from them, which is the classic incomplete backup: the internal folders copy fine while gig libraries on USB vanish from crates. Merge every drive _Serato_ before declaring victory.
Where Serato stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\Music\_Serato_
Paste %USERPROFILE%\Music\_Serato_ into Explorer for the database. History and prefs live in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Serato\Library. Check external drives for their own _Serato_ folders.
~/Music/_Serato_
Same Music/_Serato_ database plus ~/Library/Application Support/Serato/Library. Reach Library with Option held under Go. External drives carry their own _Serato_ folders here too.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move my Serato library to a new computer?
Copy three things with Serato closed: the _Serato_ folder from Music, the Library folder (AppData/Local/Serato or Application Support/Serato), and the music files themselves keeping filenames identical. Merge _Serato_ folders from external drives too: crates span every drive the music came from.
My Serato database is corrupt. How do I restore?
Close Serato, copy the newest auto backup over the live database files, and relaunch. Backups live in Serato/Library/Backups (auto, every 24 hours plus on exit) and as _Serato_Backup beside the live folder. Only the latest generation is kept, so act before it rotates.
