Where Does Shinobi CCTV Store Config and Video?
Shinobi CCTV reads conf.json and super.json, records to a videos folder, and keeps events in MariaDB. Persist all three.
Last updated
Shinobi CCTV splits into three stores. The conf.json and super.json files hold database credentials, ports, and the superuser. MariaDB (datadir) holds users, monitors, schedules, and event metadata. Recorded footage lands in a videos folder (/opt/shinobi/videos in common Docker layouts, /home/Shinobi/videos in others). Plugins extend it from a plugins folder.
Docker images are stateless by design: every one of those paths must be a volume or bind mount, or recreates wipe config, database, and footage independently. The classic trio is ./config, ./datadir, and ./videos beside the compose file. Check your image's exact mounts before scripting backups; unofficial images vary.
Where Shinobi stores this, by platform
/config (Docker mount)
conf.json plus super.json (DB credentials, ports, superuser). Mount persistently; the container regenerates defaults over an empty mount and orphan your database. Exact host path follows your image.
/opt/shinobi/videos (recordings)
Recorded MP4/WebM per monitor. Mount on big storage, not the OS disk. Pair with the MariaDB datadir dump; footage without event rows is unsearchable, rows without footage are dead links.
Frequently asked questions
how do i back up shinobi cctv
Copy conf.json and super.json, dump MariaDB (datadir), and copy the videos folder with Shinobi stopped. Config without the database loses monitors and users; either without videos loses footage.
