Where Does Ship of Harkinian Store Saves?
Where Ship of Harkinian keeps saves, configs, mods, and generated OTR archives on each OS.
Last updated
Ship of Harkinian stores saves as files in a saves folder beside the game on Windows and Linux, and under Application Support on macOS. Recent builds use JSON slots (file1.sav and friends); very old ones used a binary oot_save.sav in the game root.
Two companion files matter as much as saves: oot.otr archives generated from your own ROM, plus mods and configs beside the binary. Back up saves and note your OTR version together. Mixing an old OTR with a new build causes odd crashes.
Where Ship of Harkinian stores this, by platform
[SoH-Folder]\saves\
Save slots (file1.sav etc.) in a saves subfolder beside soh.exe. Older builds used oot_save.sav in the root. Keep the install out of Program Files and cloud drives. OTR archives sit beside the exe too.
[SoH-Folder]/saves/
Same saves layout beside the AppImage plus generated oot.otr archives. Make the AppImage executable first. Configs and logs follow XDG paths nearby in some builds.
~/Library/Application Support/com.shipofharkinian.soh/
Saves, configs, and generated oot.o2r archives. Generate the OTR once on PC, then copy it across platforms. Hidden Library; use Go, Go to Folder.
Frequently asked questions
How do I install a downloaded save file?
With the game closed, drop the downloaded file into the saves folder as file1.sav, file2.sav, or file3.sav matching the slot you want. Older builds used oot_save.sav in the game root and convert on load; keep a backup first.
Do I need to regenerate OTR files per platform?
Yes. Generate oot.otr (and oot-mq.otr for Master Quest) once with OTRGui from your own dumped ROM, then reuse the same archives on every platform. The game never ships Nintendo assets, so the OTR is mandatory.
