Where Does shotman Save Screenshots?

shotman saves immediately down a fixed chain: XDG_SCREENSHOTS_DIR, Pictures/screenshots, ~/screenshots, then cwd.

Last updated

shotman has no config file; the save location is a hardwired fallback chain evaluated per shot. Screenshots land immediately, then a thumbnail window offers keep, delete or clipboard.

IMAGE_EDITOR picks the edit program and --capture selects target (window needs sway, region needs slurp). Everything else about the run is flags, so keybinds carry the whole configuration.

Where shotman stores this, by platform

Linux
$XDG_SCREENSHOTS_DIR/ (else Pictures/screenshots, else ~/screenshots, else cwd)

Immediate save, no config file. Thumbnail keys: Esc keeps, Del deletes, Ctrl+C copies. Needs wlr_screencopy plus layer shell from the compositor.

Frequently asked questions

How do I control where shotman saves?

Set XDG_SCREENSHOTS_DIR (or create ~/Pictures/screenshots). Shotman takes the first defined location in its chain, so an empty variable falls through to the next.

Can I screenshot to clipboard without saving?

Press Del (discard deletes the file) or Ctrl+C (copy keeps it). Clipboard-only needs --copy: plain Esc keeps the saved screenshot on disk.
