Where Are Slay the Spire Save Files Located?

Slay the Spire preferences and runs folders on Windows, macOS and Linux, and why saves live in the install directory.

Last updated

Slay the Spire breaks the usual rules. Unlocks and settings live in a preferences folder inside the game install directory, not in AppData or Documents. The current run sits in a saves sibling, run history in runs. Steam Cloud syncs all three.

That placement surprises everyone hunting in home folders. An old .prefs folder in the user profile is deprecated and safe to ignore. To reset progress, delete the STS prefixed files with Cloud off. To move machines, copy preferences with the game closed.

Where Slay the Spire stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SlayTheSpire\preferences

Saves are in the saves sibling, history in runs. Cloud copies mirror under userdata/646570. Replace the Steam root if your library moved drives.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/SlayTheSpire/preferences

Same install relative layout. Right click the app and Show Package Contents only if you need the bundled Resources copy. Prefer the Steam library path.

Linux
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/SlayTheSpire/preferences

Native Linux builds use this path. Ignore the ancient ~/.prefs folder some old guides cite. Copy preferences with Steam Cloud paused for clean transfers.

Frequently asked questions

How do I wipe Slay the Spire progress?

Disable Steam Cloud, close the game, delete the STS files in preferences plus the saves folder contents, then relaunch. Re-enable Cloud only after the fresh profile appears.

Where is run history?

In the runs folder next to preferences and saves. It is local only and excluded from Cloud sync, so copy it manually if long streak records matter to you.
