Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition saves where almost no modern game does: inside its own install folder, under Data. Look for HK Autosave and HK GameSlot files next to DisplaySettings.xml and HK Options. Steam Cloud does not cover this game at all, which Steam threads rediscover with every reinstall tragedy.
The install-folder placement makes uninstalling destructive by default. Steam's uninstall wipes the Data folder along with the game. macOS players (via Feral's port) get a saner home in Application Support, but Windows players must hand-carry backups.
