Where Does SponsorBlock Store Settings and Segments?

SponsorBlock keeps skip data and settings in per-profile browser extension storage, with segment data cached from its server.

Last updated

SponsorBlock lives inside each browser profile. Settings, custom segments, and cached skip data sit in extension storage under the profile folder. There is no standalone data directory to copy.

The practical backup is the export button in the extension options. New profiles start empty even on the same machine, which confuses people who expect a global install. Server-side segment data needs no backup at all.

Where SponsorBlock stores this, by platform

Windows
%LocalAppData%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions (per profile)

Extension storage per profile. Back up from the options page before wiping the browser. Exact extension ID folder varies by install, so export beats file copying.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default/Extensions (per profile)

Same model on Mac. Firefox profiles keep it under ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles. Private segments and settings ride along only via the options export.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move SponsorBlock settings to a new browser?

Open the extension options and export your settings to a file, then import on the other profile. Segment data itself comes from the shared server, so only personal settings and private segments need moving.

Do I lose skip data if I reinstall?

Segments come from the community database and refresh on their own. Your votes and custom segments are the account-bound part. A fresh install works immediately for public segments with no restore step.
