Starfield follows the Bethesda tradition. Steam saves live in Documents/My Games/Starfield/Saves as .sfs files with autosave, quicksave and exitsave prefixes. Copy the whole Saves folder for backups.

Game Pass uses an encrypted wgs store under AppData Packages instead of readable .sfs files. Check both before declaring saves lost. Mod organizers stage plugins elsewhere and leave Saves untouched.
