Where Does Storyist Store Projects on Mac and iOS?

Where Storyist keeps novel projects, style sheets and settings on Mac and iOS devices for backup.

Last updated

Storyist is file based: each novel is a project file holding manuscript, character sheets, plot and settings for that book. App level preferences, style sheets and templates live in Application Support on Mac. iCloud Drive syncs projects between Mac and iOS.

Back up the project files first; they are the irreplaceable half. Support folder copies restore styles and options quickly. On iOS the Files app shows the same iCloud projects plus local copies under On My iPhone.

Where Storyist stores this, by platform

macOS
~/Documents/Storyist

Projects are user placed files, often under Documents or iCloud Drive. Styles and options live in Application Support. Back up projects themselves for safety.

iOS
iCloud Drive/Storyist

Projects in the Storyist iCloud folder or On My iPhone. Move local files into iCloud in the Files app before switching devices.

Frequently asked questions

How do I migrate Storyist novels to a new Mac?

Keep project files in iCloud Drive Storyist and let sync finish, then copy local stragglers through Finder. Settings travel with Application Support, manuscripts travel as files. Both halves matter for a full move.

Where is my Storyist project file?

Check File Recent and the iCloud Drive Storyist folder first. Storyist never forces one library; projects live where you saved them. Templates ship inside the app instead of the data folder.
