Where Does Strawberry Store Its Music Database?

Strawberry files its music collection database as strawberry.db in the platform's local data directory.

Last updated

Strawberry's collection lives in one SQLite file whose path changes per OS but whose name never does. Linux uses the XDG data home, macOS its Application Support, Windows its LocalAppData, each with a doubled Strawberry folder.

The official wiki documents all three paths plus integrity check commands, which tells you how often databases corrupt. Permissions and full disks cause most failures, diagnosed with ls and df before anything drastic. Settings files live separately from the database.

Where Strawberry stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.local/share/strawberry/strawberry/strawberry.db

The collection database lives here. Check permissions and disk space first on SQL errors, then pragma integrity_check the file.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Strawberry/Strawberry/strawberry.db

Same database role as Linux. Open with sqlite3 or any SQLite browser for direct queries.

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Strawberry\Strawberry\strawberry.db

Same database role as Linux. Close Strawberry before copying or renaming the file.

Frequently asked questions

How do I fix database errors?

Close Strawberry and rename strawberry.db to strawberry.db.bak, then relaunch. A fresh database builds on startup. Run pragma integrity_check through sqlite3 first to confirm corruption before discarding.

Can I query the database directly?

Yes for reading: the file is plain SQLite openable in any browser tool. Collection metadata, play counts, and ratings all query directly. Back up before hand edits since the app caches aggressively.
