Where Does DB Browser for SQLite Save Projects?
DB Browser saves work as database files and optional project files wherever you choose. App preferences follow each OS app settings convention.
Last updated
DB Browser for SQLite has no central library folder. Each database is a plain file wherever you saved it, and project files with the sqbpro extension sit beside the databases they describe. Losing track of one means searching your own folders, not the app.
App preferences follow platform convention through Qt settings: registry on Windows, plist on Mac, ini style config on Linux. Remote database clones land in a data folder under the user profile. None of this replaces backing up the actual database files.
Where DB Browser for SQLite stores this, by platform
C:\Users\<username>\Documents\mydb.db
Example user database location. You pick this at save time. Project files (*.sqbpro) default to the same folder.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DB Browser for SQLite\DB Browser for SQLite
Preferences on Windows live in the registry under the app key. Exact key names follow Qt conventions and may vary by version. Pass an explicit settings file to be certain.
/home/<username>/.local/share/sqlitebrowser/DB Browser for SQLite
Cloned remote databases on Linux. Preferences on Linux use the standard Qt ini location under home config.
/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/org.sqlitebrowser.sqlitebrowser.plist
Preferences on Mac follow the plist convention. Exact filename may vary by version, so check the app settings if this does not match.
Frequently asked questions
What is a sqbpro project file?
Use File, Save Project. The sqbpro file records open tabs and table display settings next to your database. The database itself still holds the data.
What do I back up before reinstalling?
Your databases and project files are wherever you saved them, so back those up. Preferences are secondary and rebuild by opening the app once.
