Where Does Streamlabs Desktop Store Scenes and Settings?

Streamlabs Desktop keeps scenes, settings and cache in a slobs-client folder in Roaming. Path, export rules, and reset.

Last updated

Streamlabs Desktop stores its working state in a single Roaming folder called slobs-client: scene collections as JSON, widget settings, login session and cache. The program install under Program Files holds only binaries, so reinstalling without touching slobs-client preserves everything.

That split defines the two operations everyone needs. Backing up means copying slobs-client or exporting scene collections to .overlay files, which are portable across machines. Resetting means renaming slobs-client with the app closed so it rebuilds clean. Streamlabs is Windows-only; Mac streamers use OBS Studio instead.

Where Streamlabs Desktop stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\slobs-client

Scene collections, settings, login and cache live here. Export scenes via Settings, Scene Collections, Export for portable .overlay backups. To reset, close the app and rename the folder; it rebuilds on launch. Streamlabs' own README points here for troubleshooting data issues.

Frequently asked questions

how do i back up streamlabs scenes

Use Settings, Scene Collections, Export before touching files. It writes a portable .overlay file with your scenes and sources. The slobs-client folder backup is the belt and suspenders copy; the export is the one you can import anywhere, including a fresh machine.

how do i reset streamlabs desktop

Close Streamlabs completely, rename %APPDATA%\slobs-client to a backup name, and relaunch. The app rebuilds defaults and usually starts. This wipes login and scenes, which is why the export-first rule exists. Deleting window-state.json alone fixes narrower startup hangs with less damage.

can i move obs studio scenes to streamlabs

Import the OBS scene collection from inside Streamlabs: it reads OBS Studio's files and converts on first run. Layouts and some source types need manual touch-up afterward. Keep OBS installed until the converted setup proves itself on a test stream.
