Where Does Streisand Store Server Keys and Docs?
Streisand writes client configs and keys to generated-docs in its repo folder. Keep it for the server's life.
Last updated
Streisand drops everything a run creates into generated-docs inside the cloned repo directory: per client configs, certificates, keys, and the HTML instruction page served from the gateway. That folder plus your SSH keys is the server.
Keep both for the server's whole life. Lose generated-docs and you lose every client credential with no recovery path except rebuilding. The project itself is archived since 2021, so treat existing installs as frozen and plan migrations to maintained tooling.
Where Streisand stores this, by platform
<streisand repo>/generated-docs/ + ~/.ssh/id_rsa(.pub)
Client configs, certs, keys, and gateway HTML per server run. Back up generated-docs alongside the SSH keypair used to build the server. Rebuilds generate fresh credentials rather than recovering old ones.
Frequently asked questions
I lost my Streisand client configs. Can I regenerate them?
Only from generated-docs backups. The server holds no exportable copy of client keys by design. Without the folder you rebuild the server and reissue every client. Back it up the day the run finishes.
Is Streisand still maintained?
No, the repository is archived. It still runs where it runs, but protocols and dependencies age out. Migrate long term servers to maintained Ansible roles or managed VPN tooling.
