Where Does SwitchyOmega Store Profiles and Rules?

SwitchyOmega keeps proxy profiles and rules in per-profile browser storage, with backup files for moves.

Last updated

SwitchyOmega stores profiles in extension storage inside the active profile. Proxy servers, switch rules, and PAC details share that space. There is no standalone config file.

Auto-switch results depend on live rule evaluation, not stored outcomes. That keeps the backup small and portable. Import restores identical behavior on any Chromium build.

Where SwitchyOmega stores this, by platform

Windows
%LocalAppData%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions (per profile backup file)

Profiles and rules per browser profile. Backup file covers servers and rules together. PAC details restore through import.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default/Extensions (per profile backup file)

Same model on Mac. Chromium builds share the format. Re-authorize nothing after import; rules just work.

Linux
~/.config/google-chrome/Default/Extensions (per profile backup file)

Same storage under ~/.config profiles. Backup files move between machines cleanly. Rule evaluation needs no migration.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move SwitchyOmega to a new browser?

Export options to a backup file from settings, then import on the new profile. Proxy servers, rules, and auto-switch results travel in that file.

Does browser sync carry SwitchyOmega rules?

Partly through browser sync when enabled, but the backup file is the complete route. PAC scripts and rule lists restore exactly through import.
