Where Does Tasker Store Backups and Profiles?
Tasker writes XML backups to a Tasker folder on internal storage, with profiles living in app-private data.
Last updated
Tasker keeps your live profiles, tasks, and scenes in its private app data and exports them as XML on demand. The built-in backup under Menu, Data, Backup writes to an XML path you choose in settings, defaulting into the Tasker folder on internal storage, with an optional mirrored copy on Google Drive.
That XML is the portable artifact. Copy it to a PC before wiping, then restore through Menu, Data, Restore on the new install. Individual projects also export as .prj.xml files for sharing single automations without handing over your whole setup.
Where Tasker stores this, by platform
Internal storage/Tasker/userbackup.xml
Default full backup from Menu > Data > Backup. Project exports save as .prj.xml in the same folder unless changed. Uninstalling wipes the private profile store, so the XML files are what survive.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move Tasker to a new phone?
Run Menu, Data, Backup on the old phone and copy userbackup.xml over. On the new install use Menu, Data, Restore and point at the file. Re-grant every permission and accessibility access afterwards, since Android never migrates grants.
Can I share one Tasker project without my whole setup?
Yes. Long press the project tab and export it as a .prj.xml file. The recipient imports it the same way. Full userbackup.xml restores carry everything, so prefer project files for sharing.
