Where Does the Technic Launcher Store Modpacks?

Where the Technic Launcher keeps modpacks, saves, and its launcher profile on each OS.

Last updated

The Technic Launcher keeps a .technic folder in the home directory per OS with modpacks/, assets, and launcher state inside. Platform installers differ but the data root name stays constant.

Saves nest one level down per pack, which keeps multi-pack setups isolated. The launcher remembers Microsoft credentials separately, so a data copy alone may still ask for login on the new machine. That is expected.

Where Technic Launcher stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\.technic\

Modpacks per folder with saves inside each (modpacks/<pack>/saves). Launcher profile in launcher/ beside packs. Hidden dotfolder; enable hidden files to see it.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/.technic/

Same modpacks layout. Use Go to Folder in Finder since the home Library is hidden; the dotfolder needs hidden files visible.

Linux
~/.technic/

Same layout under home. Check both this and ~/.technic on old installs; very early builds used the plain dotfolder instead.

Frequently asked questions

Where are saves inside the Technic folder?

Each modpack folder holds its mods, saves, and configs (e.g. modpacks/hexxit/saves). Copy the modpack folder to back it up. Launcher-wide login state sits in launcher/ beside the packs; keep both for a full move.

How do I set Java for Technic packs?

Use the Launcher Options, Java Settings tab to point at a 64-bit Java 8+ install with enough RAM (4GB is a sane modded starting point). Per-pack Java tweaks live in the pack settings; the global default covers the rest.
