Where Does Termux Store Files and Settings?

Where Termux keeps its home, package tree and terminal settings on Android, and why PCs see nothing.

Last updated

Termux keeps a full Linux tree inside its private app storage on Android. Home, package binaries, etc and tmp all live under one data root with locked permissions. Terminal settings sit in a dot folder inside home.

That isolation blocks every outside browser including USB file transfer. A setup command bridges one shared storage link for moving files in and out. Back up home plus the properties folder for a full move. Installed packages share the usr tree, so back up home plus usr together. Run the storage setup before moving files out.

Private app tree with home, package binaries and terminal settings inside. Locked permissions plus SELinux block outside browsers. Bridge through the storage link.

Frequently asked questions

Why can my PC not see Termux home files over USB?

Run the storage setup command inside Termux, then copy through the shared storage link it creates. The app home stays locked at system permissions with SELinux on top. Other apps and USB browsers never see inside directly.

I edited termux.properties and nothing changed. Why?

Edit the properties file in the dot termux folder under home, then run the reload command. Colors and fonts live beside it in the same folder. Changes apply without restarting the session.
