Where Does Textual Store Transcripts and Settings on Mac?

Textual keeps transcripts and preferences in Application Support, inside its sandbox container on recent builds.

Last updated

Textual saves channel transcripts, server settings, and styles in its Application Support folder. Older builds used ~/Library/Application Support/Textual IRC Client directly. Sandboxed releases moved the same tree under the app container path.

Back up the whole folder with Textual closed to keep logs and server list together. Exact container names vary by Textual generation, so check the Containers folder if the classic path looks empty.

Where Textual stores this, by platform

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Textual IRC Client

Transcripts plus preferences on classic installs. Copy whole folder. Recent sandboxed builds mirror it under ~/Library/Containers/com.codeux.irc.textual.

Frequently asked questions

Where are Textual chat logs?

In the Transcripts area of the Application Support tree, per network and channel. Copy them out for archives. ZNC bouncers keep their own copies server side too.

Why is my Textual folder empty?

You run the sandboxed build. Look under Containers for the Textual bundle id. The same subfolders live one level deeper there.
