Where Does TheDesk Store Accounts and Columns?
TheDesk multi-column Fediverse client data on Windows, macOS and Linux, following Electron roots.
Last updated
TheDesk is an Electron based multi-column client for Mastodon and Misskey, so its data sits in the standard platform userData folder under its own name. Accounts, columns, settings and sessions share the one tree.
Migration mirrors sibling Electron apps: one folder copy with everything quit. Reinstalls wipe the tree, so keep a backup before uninstalling. A few instances force re login on new hardware regardless.
Where TheDesk stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\TheDesk
Accounts, columns and sessions in one tree. Quit fully before copying, and keep a spare until every instance signs in on the new machine.
~/Library/Application Support/TheDesk
Same interior as Windows. Reach it through Go to Folder in Finder, since Library stays hidden.
~/.config/TheDesk
Follows the XDG config home. Check snap, Flatpak or AppImage roots when the default looks freshly empty.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move TheDesk to a new PC?
Quit TheDesk everywhere, then copy its userData folder to the same spot on the new machine. Columns and most sessions carry over; a few instances demand fresh login as a security check.
Which networks does TheDesk support?
Mastodon plus Misskey family instances in one multi-column layout. Each account stays separate inside the same data tree, so work and personal timelines coexist.
Is the layout identical on every OS?
Yes, with the same interior on all three. Only the platform root changes; the folder name stays TheDesk everywhere. Containerized Linux builds may keep their own roots.
