Where Does Mona Store Accounts and Settings?
Mona keeps Mastodon and Misskey sessions in its Apple containers on iOS and Mac under verified bundle IDs.
Last updated
Mona ships as Mona 27 under com.jonny.supermona on both iOS and macOS. Classic installs used a different ID. Sessions live in the Apple sandbox while drafts can sync through iCloud. Timelines and follows stay on servers, so local copies cover prefs and session state. Fresh auth is normal after a move.
iOS paths carry a per install GUID that changes every time. macOS uses a stable Containers path with the bundle ID inside. Tokens sit in Keychain on both, so a raw folder copy never transfers logins alone. Enable sync for drafts and reading position before switching, then log into instances anew. Copy the Mac container with the app closed when prefs must move.
Where Mona stores this, by platform
/var/mobile/Containers/Data/Application/<guid>/Documents
GUID container for bundle com.jonny.supermona. Classic used com.jonny.mona. Logins in Keychain; timelines stay on instances.
~/Library/Containers/com.jonny.supermona/Data/Documents
Stable Mac container for the current bundle. Copy with Mona closed to migrate prefs; re authenticate instances after.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move Mona to a new iPhone or Mac?
Enable iCloud sync for drafts and reading position before switching. Instance logins still need fresh auth on the new device. Timelines and follows pull from servers automatically.
Which bundle ID does my Mona use?
Current Mona 27 uses com.jonny.supermona. Older Mona Classic used com.jonny.mona. Check which icon you have before quoting paths to support or copying containers.
